A tragic accident claimed the life of a female civic volunteer in Howrah after a speeding dumper struck her bicycle, causing fatal injuries. The incident occurred at Mallickfatak, where civic volunteer Rumki Hazra was returning home on a bicycle after completing her duty in the B Garden area. Around Forshore Road, a dumper approached her from behind and struck her bicycle with tremendous force.
The impact of the collision was devastating, leaving Rumki fatally injured and causing excessive bleeding. She tragically died on the spot before any help could arrive. Bystanders witnessed the horrifying accident and informed local authorities. Howrah Police quickly arrived at the scene and took steps to secure the area. The body was recovered and sent to Howrah State General Hospital for postmortem, as investigations into the accident continued.
Upon hearing about the incident, senior officials from the Howrah Police Department, including Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathi and the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic, reached the location to oversee the investigation. The police also seized the dumper involved in the accident and apprehended the driver on the spot.
